A former instructor at Todd County Central High School was served with a grand jury indictment warrant for rape and several other charges Monday.
The Todd County Sheriff’s Department served 39-year old Craig Harman of Clarksville with the warrant for rape in the first-degree, third-degree rape, unlawful transaction with a minor involving an illegal sex act, unlawful transaction with a minor involving a controlled substance, first-degree sexual abuse, 32 counts of possession of matter portraying a sex performance by a minor, five counts of use of a minor in a sexual performance, three counts of distribution of obscene matter to minors and three counts of third-degree terroristic threatening.
Harman was extradited from Montgomery County and served with the indictment warrant at the Todd County Jail.
The indictment alleges that from September 1 through November 29 of 2021, Harman engaged in sexual intercourse with a juvenile who he came into contact with due to his position.
The description of the first-degree rape count says at least one of the alleged instances was through force used by Harman.
Harman is also accused of providing the victim with an Adderall pill, according to the indictment.
Kentucky State Police also allege Harman possessed 32 videos or pictures that depicted the victim in a sexual performance.
The indictment alleges he also threatened to kill the victim and two other people if they told anyone about the sexual relationship between him and the victim.
Todd County School System Superintendent Mark Thomas issued a statement saying, “Craig Harman was employed by the Todd County School District from July 2021 through November 2021 as a JROTC Instructor for Todd County Central High School. Mr. Harman resigned from his teaching position on November 22, 2021 and was immediately relieved of all access to the school campus.”
He continues, “The safety and well-being of our students are always our highest priority. Upon receiving notice of possible inappropriate conduct by Mr. Harman, the school district took prompt action and requested an investigation by law enforcement. This included an investigation with the local law enforcement along with the Kentucky State Police. The district also made a report to the local Kentucky Department of Community Based Services with the Child Protection Branch. During the subsequent investigations with the various agencies the district completely cooperated with each entity in order to assist with their investigations. Additionally, the matter was reported to the Kentucky Educational Professional Standards Board.”
Harman is lodged on a $100,000 bond and is set to appear in Todd Circuit Court for arraignment on March 15.
