Kentucky Drops Road Contest at Vanderbilt
Adebola Adeyeye scored a season-high 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds but the Kentucky women’s basketball team lost to Vanderbilt 79-57 on Sunday at Memorial Gymnasium. Kentucky (10-16, 2-12 SEC) got 11 points from Blair Green and a career-high six points from freshman Zennia Thomas. The Cats played without Maddie Scherr for the second straight game. The Commodores, who got a game-high 24 points from Ciaja Harbison, would lead by as many as 30 in the fourth quarter before settling for the 22-point victory.
Cardinals Outlast Boston College 62-52
The University of Louisville women’s basketball team had a late second half surge to push past Boston College, 62-52, Sunday afternoon at Conte Forum. Facing a 42-34 deficit with 12 minutes remaining in the game, Louisville (20-9, 11-5) outscored the Eagles (13-15, 4-13) 28-10 to win their 20th game of the season and ninth on the road. It is the 13th-straight season the Cardinals have won 20 games or more, extending the program record. The Cards have won 20 games or more in 15 of head coach Jeff Walz’s 16 seasons. Hailey Van Lith led the team with 17 points but the Cards got a big lift from their bench. Liz Dixon scored 13 points and added a team-high 12 rebounds for her first double double of the season and seventh of her career. Merissah Russell had a career-high 13 points on the afternoon and nine of them came in the fourth quarter. Mykasa Robinson had another strong all-around game as she led the Cards with eight assists, tied a career high with nine rebounds and had five points and a steal.
Burpo Joins 1K Club As Racers Win at SIU
The Murray State women’s basketball team picked up a crucial first MVC road win of the season Sunday by defeating Southern Illinois, 83-69, at the Banterra Center in Carbondale, Illinois. With her last shot of the night, Alexis Burpo became the 22nd member of Murray State’s 1,000-point club. The redshirt senior finished the night with four points to give her 1,001 career points. Katelyn Young posted her second consecutive 30-point game and second consecutive double-double Sunday to lead the Racers with 31 points and 12 rebounds. Macey Turley inched closer to 2,000 career points against the Salukis with 14. She now needs just 13 points to become the fourth player in Racer history to reach the elite milestone. Murray State got 31 points from its bench Sunday, led by 13 points from Briley Pena and 11 from Hannah McKay.
