Kentucky’s abortion ban trigger law remains in place for now, following a ruling Thursday by the Kentucky Supreme Court, and local legislators are pleased with the decision.
Representative Myron Dossett notes the ultimate decision on the law’s constitutionality is still pending in the Supreme Court.
The bill only provides an exception to the abortion ban when the mother’s life is in jeopardy and Senator Whitney Westerfield of Christian County is glad the court didn’t grant an injunction against the law while it considers the matter.
Representative Walker Thomas called the decision a victory for pro-life supporters and while he knows it faces further challenges, it’s good to have the trigger law in place in the meantime.
