Guthrie PD vehicle burns, officer avoids injury

A Guthrie police officer avoided injury Saturday afternoon after his SUV caught fire and burned.

Chief Dean Blumel says Sgt. Eric Pinkett was traveling on East Park Street and began to smell smoke.

He pulled into a parking lot and attempted to put out a fire under the vehicle with a fire extinguisher, but was unsuccessful.

The vehicle burned and is a total loss.

Chief Blumel believes an electrical issue is likely to blame.

The Guthrie and Trenton Volunteer Fire Departments responded.
