Suspect arrested, arraigned for 2020 Oak Grove shooting incident

A man sought for an alleged shooting incident in Oak Grove is in custody and appeared Thursday morning in Christian District Court.

An Oak Grove Police Department warrant for first-degree assault was served Wednesday by the Christian County Sheriff’s Office at the Christian County jail against 45-year old Edwin Stewart of Oak Grove alleges that on July 18, he assaulted and then shot Christopher Wortham with a handgun.

The incident happened outside of a party on Kerri Lane in Oak Grove and Wortham was flown to a Nashville hospital for treatment.

Stewart fled the scene and Oak Grove police named him a suspect in the incident about a month later.

He was arraigned in Christian District Court, with Judge Foster Cotthoff entering a not guilty plea on his behalf and he appointed him a public defender.

Judge Cotthoff declined a request from Stewart to reduce his $50,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing was set for Friday of next week.
