School board approves putting weapons detection system out to bid

The Christian County School Board approved rescinding the previous vote to purchase weapons detection devices and to put them out for bid at Thursday’s board meeting.

The board had previously taken action during a special-called board meeting on Monday to purchase weapons detection technology from ERS Wireless in the amount of approximately $809,000 but District Technology Director Jason Wilson says due to some unclear language in the master purchasing agreement with the state, they learned they must put the purchase out for bid instead of purchasing the equipment directly.

He says the bids will be out for at least a week and then they’ll have another special-called meeting to get the purchase approved again.

The devices, once purchased, will be placed at both district high schools and at the Bluegrass Academy and could be easily moved around the district for use at events such as ballgames and graduations.

In other action, the board approved the list of board approved fees to sports, clubs and other extra-curriculars at schools.
