Dollar General robbery suspect takes plea deal

A plea deal was reached Wednesday morning in Christian Circuit Court for the man who committed robbery at the West Seventh Street Dollar General in October of last year.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling explained the deal for 27-year-old Edward Gilstrap, Jr. of Hopkinsville that comes with a recommended 5-year sentence, saying he’s withholding his position on probation for now.

On October 18, Gilstrap left the West Seventh Street Dollar General Store with stolen merchandise while making threats to a clerk that he had a knife.

Judge John Atkins scheduled final sentencing for April 12.
