Congressman Comer visits Hopkinsville, talks farm bill, U.S. airspace safety

Congressman James Comer made a stop in Hopkinsville to visit with local agriculture leaders in the community as work is set to begin soon on crafting a farm bill.

Congressman Comer served on the conference committee during the construction of the previous farm bill and thinks it’s likely he will serve on it again, and he plans to focus on what’s important to farmers.

He says it’s an important piece of legislation that affects Kentucky as a whole, and includes important items such as crop insurance, SNAP benefits, school lunch programs, conservation efforts and more.

Comer says he is concerned about the safety of the United States airspace, considering the recent Chinese balloon that traveled over this area and other objects that have been shot down, and he has a lot of questions that he hopes are answered soon.

He bragged on local agriculture industries, saying they’re providing a vital need not just to western Kentucky but to the nation as a whole, and he thinks the demand for products such as ethanol will only continue to climb. He says he intends to help see to it that the infrastructure and support those industries and farmers need to succeed is present in federal government.
