Kentucky Falls to Arkansas on Tuesday
Arkansas made the most plays, as the Hogs topped the Cats 88-73 in a key SEC matchup. Kentucky (16-8, 7-4 SEC) got big games from freshmen Chris Livingston and Cason Wallace on Tuesday. Wallace had 24 points, five assists, three rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots. Livingston had 13 points and five rebounds. The Cats also got 11 points from both Antonio Reeves and Jacob Topping, who also had eight rebounds. Oscar Tshiebwe was held to seven points and seven rebounds in the game. Arkansas (17-7, 6-5) had balance in its scoring attack, with five players scoring in double figures. Ricky Council IV led the Razorbacks with 20 points, while Anthony Black added 19. Davonte Davis and Makhel Mitchell each had 15 and Jordan Walsh added 13. The Razorbacks shot a sizzling 72 percent (18 for 25) in the second half to pull away for the win.
Louisville Falters in Road Loss at Pittsburgh
Louisville men’s basketball couldn’t keep Pitt from lighting it up from long range in a 91-57 road loss Tuesday night. The Panthers (17-7, 10-3 ACC) torched the Cardinals with a 17-for-31 clip from beyond the arc, as well as an 18-for-20 showing from the free-throw line. They shot 54.9% overall with 23 assists. Nike Sibande paced Pitt with 15 points. Mike James’ 11 points led Louisville, while sophomore guard Hercy Miller had a career-high 10 points. Redshirt junior forward Jae’Lyn Withers added nine points, and freshman forward/center Emmanuel Okorafor tallied six points, six rebounds and four blocks.
Racers Fall To Drake At Home
The Murray State Racers dropped a 92-68 defeat to the Drake Bulldogs Tuesday at the CFSB Center, Murray, Kentucky. The Racers (13-12) fell to 8-7 in the Missouri Valley Conference as they hit the road for a Saturday game against the Bradley Braves. The 1 p.m. Central Time tip happens at Carver Arena in Peoria, Illinois. Brian Moore, Jr. led the Racers with 17 points, while Jamari Smith added 11. DJ Burns hauled in a team-high nine rebounds, while JaCobi Wood made six assists.
Van Lith Named to Naismith Women’s Player of the Year Midseason Team
University of Louisville guard Hailey Van Lith has been named to the Jersey Mike’s Naismith Women’s Player of the Year Midseason Team, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced on Tuesday afternoon. Van Lith is one of 30 players to be named on the midseason team after being named to the preseason watch list back in November. This is the third midseason watch list that Van Lith has been named to over the past two weeks. Last week, she was named to the Wooden Award Late Season Top 20 List and Drysdale Award Top 10 List. Van Lith is one of five players to be named on the Wooden, Drysdale and Naismith midseason lists. Van Lith leads the Cardinals this season with 19.2 points per game and 3.4 assists per game. She ranks third on the team in rebounds with 5.0 per game. She ranks 15th nationally in points (461), 17th in minutes per game (36.6), 21st in field goals made (166) and 26th in points per game. In conference games this season, Van Lith has scored 18 or more points in eight ACC games and 20 or more points in seven ACC games. No other player in the conference has higher marks in those categories. In conference games, Van Lith ranks third with 18.7 points per game and seventh with 3.6 assists per game. She is second in the league with a .896 free throw percentage.
