Motion to produce communications granted in 2006 murder case

A motion for the Commonwealth to produce copies of communications and interviews concerning murder suspect Anastaja Hathaway to the defense was granted Wednesday in Christian Circuit Court.

That came after a hearing where defense attorney Brandi Jones, who represents Hathaway, says she feels her client’s rights were violated with two separate interviews, including the day before her arraignment, were conducted with Hathaway before she had a lawyer representing her.

Jones was appointed as conflict counsel in the case in which Hathaway and co-defendant Lashanda Person are both charged with murder in the 2006 death of Roscoe Mayes on Greenville Road.

Jones requested she receive copies of any communications concerning when the Department of Public Advocacy and Jones herself was appointed to represent Hathaway before Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling leaves office at the end of February.

Judge Andrew Self granted that request, giving Boling until February 24 to do so. Jones also requested her client’s bond be reduced further.

Judge Self advised they could discuss bond after she filed a written motion at a pretrial hearing on March 8, where they could potentially set a date for an evidentiary hearing, if needed.
