Literacy Council, Leadership teaming up to publish children’s book

The Rotary Club of Hopkinsville heard from the Christian County Literacy Council at Tuesday’s meeting and learned of how they’ve been encouraging early literacy and upcoming projects.

The Literacy Council has been host to numerous events the past few months, from Cookies with Santa, to writing contests to the Real Men Read initiative.  It’s all in the name of promoting early learning to students of every age and to the adults in the community as well.

Leadership Hopkinsville-Christian County is partnering with the Literacy Council and other community organizations to help get a children’s book published which Richard Dixon says focuses on the adventures of an onion that’s traveling Hopkinsville in effort to learn how to read.

He says the character is based on the yearly fundraiser selling onions by the Literacy Council and it’s their hope that as the book becomes popular with children, it will generate support for the council’s efforts.

The Literacy Council is always looking for volunteers to take part in their many programs and services, and they’re always accepting of donations.  For more information, give them a follow through the Christian County Literacy Council on Facebook.
