The Christian County Schools’ Local Planning Committee on Thursday will host its first in a series of meetings to consider changes to the current district facilities plan and review a draft of an updated version.
Superintendent Chris Bentzel on Friday announced a proposal to convert Martin Luther King Elementary School into a middle school, move students from Indian Hills Elementary to the current Hopkinsville Middle School building and then move the new Inspire Early Learning Academy from MLK to Indian Hills for the beginning of the 2024-25 school year.
Students currently zoned for MLK would be dispersed to the seven remaining elementary schools in Christian County under the proposal.
Bentzel also outlined plans for a scaled-back and smaller version of the consolidated high school project as the district works to make it more affordable. He told those at the State of the Schools breakfast Friday that he hopes for re-bidding the project in mid-April.
The current high schools would begin operating as a consolidated school with the academy model beginning in the fall of 2024, with Hopkinsville High School operating as the freshman academy and Christian County High and the Gateway Academy to house sophomores through seniors.
The LPC meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the board office on Glass Avenue and there will be a public hearing for comments at 7 p.m.
