The resumption of the 2023 short session of the Kentucky General Assembly is two days away and there are perennial hot-button issues still on the table.
Medical marijuana comes up every year and has been passed in the House in previous sessions, with Representative Jason Petrie of Elkton saying he expects the bill’s fate this year to lie in the hands of the Senate.
Senator Whitney Westerfield of Christian County will support the measure and believes support among other lawmakers is growing.
Legalization of sports betting also comes up each year and Petrie says he hasn’t seen any indication there’s momentum for a bill to pass.
Representative Walker Thomas says he’s not sure how much traction either measure has in the legislature this year, but he expects to see at least some movement on them.
You can hear local lawmakers discuss these issues and others on our Legislative Update program Sunday morning at 9 on 98.7 Lite FM and online at lite987whop.com.
