Probation was denied Wednesday morning in Christian Circuit Court for a man who fired a gun toward a woman on Evergreen Park Drive in May of last year and who previously pled guilty to his role in gang recruitment.
Nineteen-year-old Jacquan Redd of Hopkinsville fired a gun at a woman in the 600 block of Evergreen Park on May 15 and while two area homes and three vehicles were struck by gunfire, no one was injured.
His attorneys asked for Judge John Atkins to probate his 10 year sentence for the attempted first-degree assault, wanton endangerment, criminal mischief and criminal gang recruitment charges—with Redd speaking on his own behalf and saying spending time in jail has changed him.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling argued that his co-defendants in the criminal syndicate case were all denied probation if they had a companion case and Judge John Atkins agreed, sentencing Redd to 10 years in prison.
Redd says he could work at a local factory if he was probated and Judge Atkins told him he’s willing to consider work release if employment is gained and verified.
