Assistant Christian County Attorney Maureen Leamy has announced she’ll be running for commonwealth’s attorney in an anticipated special election this fall following the impending resignation of current Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling.
Leamy made the announcement on Facebook this week, becoming the first person to publicly express an interest in becoming the next chief prosecutor of felony cases in Christian County.
She has spent the last 17 years prosecuting in district court and was an assistant commonwealth’s attorney from 2005-2006 and says she feels like she’s shown herself well-qualified for the job.
Leamy says she’s never considered a run for public office in the past, but this felt like the right decision at the right time.
Governor Andy Beshear will be tasked with appointing an interim commonwealth’s attorney when Boling’s resignation becomes effective at the end of February and Leamy says she’s made it known she’s ready to serve, if appointed.
