Clayton to replace retiring Martin as Hopkinsville CFO

A veteran of Hopkinsville city government is being promoted to replace the retiring Robert Martin as chief financial officer.

A news release says Mayor J.R. Knight has chosen Melissa Clayton to lead finance operations for the City of Hopkinsville effective February 6th to allow for cross-training and a smooth transition with the retirement of Martin.

Clayton now serves as Comptroller and has been with the city since October of 2011.

Mayor Knight is quoted as saying, “After conducting a broad search, it was clear the best person to lead the city’s finances was already in-house. Melissa has been a tremendous asset to the city and has the right balance of experience, skills, and innovation to continue to move the city forward.”

Clayton says, “I look forward to advancing my career with the City of Hopkinsville in the role of CFO.  I am excited to lead a great Finance Team and continue to bring exceptional service to city employees, agencies, council members, and the residents of Hopkinsville.”

Clayton’s tenure with the City of Hopkinsville began as a revenue and license specialist. She made a lateral move to payroll specialist in April of 2013, was promoted to finance coordinator in May of 2016, and then promoted again to comptroller in February of 2020.
