Salvation Army celebrates successful holiday season fundraising

The Salvation Army of Hopkinsville is celebrating a successful fundraising winter season and is preparing for the needs of the community to come with the new year.

Lt. Lindsey Galabeas appeared on the WHOP Early Bird Show Monday and says that thanks to the generosity of the community, whether that was through the Red Kettle campaign or direct donations, they raised $92,000 during the holiday season.

As for the Kiwanis versus Rotary clubs yearly friendly competition for which club raises the most money during that time, the Rotary Club of Hopkinsville takes home the trophy this year.

Lt. Galabeas says the need continues however, especially as we remain in what are usually the coldest months of the year, so they’re accepting donations of warm clothing and blankets, along with heaters.

She says they will also take monetary donations to help keep their extreme weather shelters up and running on nights with freezing temperatures.
