Local Imagination Library celebrates 10 years of early literacy, Dolly Parton’s birthday

The Hopkinsville-Christian County Imagination Library held a celebration Friday in honor of Dolly Parton’s birthday and for the local branch’s ten-year anniversary.

Attendees celebrated in style, with books and snacks and activities, in honor of Dolly Parton, who started the nationwide Imagination Library initiative many years ago in an effort to fight illiteracy. Bonnie Lynch says she’s glad to see the local program still going strong 10 years later and hopes it keeps going for many more.

Public Library Director DeeAnna Sova says Christian County was one of the first counties in the state to get the program started, and it shows how committed the community has always been to the success of their children.

Hopkinsville Mayor JR Knight and Christian County Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam were on hand at the event to read a proclamation celebrating the program’s success.

Since its inception, the Hopkinsville-Christian County Imagination Library has mailed out approximately 367,785 books to child ages 0 through five years old, with roughly 3,500 kids enrolled each month.
