First Overtime Game of Season Ends in WKU Loss

WKU Hilltopper Basketball fell to the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs in overtime 85-74 on Thursday night. The two teams only outscored each other by two in either half, but Louisiana Tech used a second wind to shut WKU out of overtime.

Five Straight Wins for the Lady Toppers

WKU women’s basketball (9-8, 6-2 C-USA) is up to five straight wins after a 66-55 victory against Louisiana Tech (11-7, 4-4 C-USA) on Thursday night in Bowling Green. With the win, WKU is in sole possession of second place in the Conference USA standings. The Lady Toppers are two games back from first place Middle Tennessee (8-0). Odeth Betancourt became the eighth Lady Topper to lead the team in scoring this season, notching a career high 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Alexis Mead and Jaylin Foster had 11 points each and Acacia Hayes had her fifth straight double-digit performance with 10 points. Foster led the team on the boards, pulling down six rebounds. Mead dished four assists while Foster and Josie Gilvin earned three steals each. It was the third straight game four Lady Toppers have finished with double digit points and the seventh time this season. The bench once again delivered for WKU, scoring 29 points which is right on average for the season (29.1 points per game for reserves).

Cardinals Grind Out Win Over Boston College, 73-65

The University of Louisville women’s basketball team defeated Boston College 73-65 Thursday night at the KFC Yum! Center marking its fifth-consecutive home victory. Hailey Van Lith led the way for the Cardinals (15-6, 6-2 ACC) with 24 points, six rebounds, and two steals. Chrislyn Carr stuffed the stat sheet with 18 points, six assists, four steals, and three rebounds. Olivia Cochran chipped in with eight points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals, while Mykasa Robinson provided a spark off the bench, registering eight points, four assists, four rebounds, and two steals. Robinson also set a new school record for games played in a career with 145, which was previously held by Jazmine Jones. Louisville shot 50 percent from the field and from beyond the arc in the win, while forcing 23 Boston College turnovers. Taina Mair led the Eagles (13-8, 3-5 ACC) with 16 points, seven assists, and four rebounds. JoJo Lacey added 15 points, six rebounds, and four assists, while Ally Van Timmeren chipped in with 13 points on 5 of 10 shooting in the loss.

Cardinals Add Emmanuel Okorafor to 2022-23 Roster

Louisville men’s basketball announced Thursday the addition of forward/center Emmanuel Okorafor to the roster for the current 2022-23 season. Okorafor (oh-CORE-uh-FOR), a 6-foot-9 prospect from Lagos, Nigeria, will join the team this week and be eligible to compete immediately as a freshman. Okorafor joined NBA Academy Africa in May 2021 and enrolled full-time in March 2022. Making the most of his opportunity in the BAL, Okorafor averaged a double-double for BC Espoir Fukash out of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. His statistics were the highest of any BAL Elevate program player in the league. He helped lead NBA Academy Africa to a first-place finish in the tournament. Okorafor’s first official game on the roster with the Cardinals will come next week when Louisville travels to Boston College at 9 p.m. ET Wednesday.

Hale’s perfect double-double leads to commanding win against Sugar Bears

Shamarre Hale went perfect from the field and recorded her second double-double of the season, leading Austin Peay State University women’s basketball to a 64-53 ASUN Conference win against Central Arkansas, Thursday, at the Farris Center. Hale went 7-of-7 from the floor in her 18-point, 11-rebound performance, becoming the first Gov to not miss a basket on at least five shots since D’Shara Booker went 5-for-5 from the field against Davidson in the Women’s Basketball Invitational, March 20. Austin Peay (10-6, 5-1 ASUN) earned its fourth-straight win of the season against Central Arkansas (6-11, 1-5 ASUN), its longest winning streak of the season and tied for the longest streak under by second-year head coach, Brittany Young. The win also marked the fifth time in program history that the Governors won five of their first six conference games.

Slow start downs Govs in Thursday-night battle with Bellarmine

After falling behind by double-digits in the first half, the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team was able to cut the deficit to just six points but could never even the score and fell to Bellarmine, 56-45, in ASUN Conference action, Thursday, in the Winfield Dunn Center.

(Baton Rouge, LA)  — The number-nine Tennessee Volunteers will try to stay hot when they visit LSU in Baton Rouge tomorrow.  The Vols are coming off a 70-59 win over Mississippi State on Tuesday, their sixth win in their last seven contests.  Tennessee is 15-and-3 overall and 5-and-1 in the SEC.  Tomorrow’s game tips off at 3:00PM Central time.

(Undated)  — In college hoops action yesterday, Memphis beat Wichita State 88-78.  Tomorrow, Kentucky hosts Texas A&M, Pre-Game at 11:30 AM on 98.7 Lite FM, and Vanderbilt visits Georgia.  Memphis is at Cincinnati on Sunday.
