Trials were set for the two men charged with assaulting each other during an incident in July.
Ronald Young is charged with second-degree assault and Herbert Wharton is charged with two counts of first-degree assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Trial was set to take place for Young on June 5, and for Wharton on August 17, with Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling clarifying they can’t be tried together, since the allegations are against each other.
A warrant alleges on July 26, Young caused serious injury to Wharton by striking him several times on the head, causing injuries that required surgery and could potentially cause him to lose vision in one eye.
Later that morning, Wharton allegedly confronted Young and shot him in the hand and shot 65-year old Kathy Jackson in the leg with a rifle during an incident on a lot between East Third and Fourth Street.
