Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight made his first regular appearance on the WHOP Early Bird Show Friday and says he’s committed to building a new fire station in the city—a project that studies have shown is needed.
He says budget preparations have already begun and he’s hearing from department heads on what they need and want in the fiscal year that begins July 1.
Fire Chief Steve Futrell has been discussing the eventual necessity of another fire station on the south side of the city and Mayor Knight says it’s going to happen.
He says that new fire station will likely be along Fort Campbell Boulevard near the Walmart Distribution Center.
The mayor says homelessness, population growth and cleaning up downtown are among the other issues he’s focused on during his first few weeks of his administration.
