Fiscal court hears GFL concerns, advances library project

With a new judge-executive and five new magistrates, Christian Fiscal Court met Tuesday morning for the first time in 2023.

Mack McCord of south Christian County spoke during public comments and complained about the lack of trash collection service he’s been getting from GFL in recent weeks and says getting good customer service has also been difficult.

Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam noted issues with GFL, which is the only trash-collection option out in the county, has been an ongoing issue and the county has a meeting with their leaders in the near future.

In other action, court approved final reading of an ordinance to finance a library renovation project through the Kentucky Association of Counties, though the bill will be paid with yearly revenue from a $750,000 grant. Library Executive Director DeeAnna Sova says bathrooms will be made ADA compliant and a much-improved upstairs will become the home of all children’s activities.

Magistrates approved several appointments to various boards and approved the hiring of former state trooper, Trigg County sheriff’s deputy and Hopkinsville police officer Michael Sandbrink to serve on the Christian County Jail leadership team under new Jailer Adam Smith.
