General Assembly in recess until Feb. 7

The Kentucky General Assembly is in its normal odd-numbered year recess between its first week of session and the first full week of February and there will be many priorities in both chambers when lawmakers return to Frankfort.

State Senator Whitney Westerfield says he isn’t opposed to some of the spending measures Governor Andy Beshear included in his State of the Commonwealth last week, but believes the most pressing matter is the Department of Juvenile Justice—citing recent riots and assaults in detention facilities.

Representative Myron Dossett is sponsoring legislation this session regarding solar farms—one bill regarding the developers and one protecting the land-owners who sign a lease.

Representative Walker Thomas has once again filed his tax exempt military pension legislation, and he has hope that it will see passage this year.

Legislators resume the 30-day session February 7.
