Christian County, after performing very well in their tourney down in the Volunteer state, came home to face a Caldwell County team that we all felt would be a little rusty.
According to the KHSAA website the Tigers had not played since they defeated HCA back on December 22nd. They looked it.
The Colonels led wire-to-wire, picking up their fourth win in their last five games, 65-31. That one loss, their only one since December twentieth, was to a Pearl-Cohn Firebird team from outside Nashville that I can promise you will compete for and possibly win their state title; their football team played for one this year.
It should also be pointed out that before playing Caldwell County on Tuesday night, Christian County had not faced a team from the state of Kentucky since Hopkinsville on December 17th, and had not lost since the thirteenth at Bowling Green to a team from KY.
A Colonel team that seems to be rounding into shape, back at .500 with a 7-7 record, now turns a corner and stares down a very worthy and capable opponent; UHA.
The Blazers are much better than their 5-5 record, much like Christian County, but the difference between them and the Colonels is that UHA has only two wins since December 13th. The Blazers are two of their last six in the in department after starting 3-1.
Famously now the Colonels started this year 2-0 before going on a four game losing streak. then what happened. They beat Hopkinsville. A bitter rivalry, a district game, and a win that took grit and a full thirty-two minutes of team basketball.
All Christian County has done since winning the Hopkinsville game, as pointing out earlier, is go 3-3 outside the state of KY against very highly touted and ranked competition from TN, then prove that the Volunteer state trips did not cloud their focus by handling Caldwell County soundly.
Will Friday night be UHA’s turning point like Hoptown seems to have been for the Colonels? Or will Christian County snuff out the Blazers and put themselves squarely in control of the district race?
