Resolution possible in second-degree manslaughter case

A resolution is still possible in the case against second-degree manslaughter suspect Jeremy Ryan Smith.

Smith appeared before Judge Andrew Self in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday afternoon alongside public defender Doug Moore, who told the judge that negotiations continue and he believes they are close to a resolution, requesting a little more time to finalize the details.

Judge Self agreed to a continuance and set it for January 11, saying it’s his hope it will be resolved by that time.

An indictment against Jeremy Smith alleges he caused the May 8 death of a victim identified only as “S.G.” by distributing the controlled substance that led to the overdose. He allegedly provided the drug to the victim the prior day. He is additionally charged with trafficking in a controlled substance.
