HWEA declares Water Shortage Warning, urges customers to limit water use

Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority is declaring a Water Shortage Warning, as unusually high water demand continues in the wake of winter weather and sub-zero temperatures.

According to a news release, the increased demand is believed to be due to leaks caused by pipes which have burst due to the extremely cold temperatures as well as an increase in customer demand. HWEA is declaring a Water Shortage Warning and asks all customers to limit their water usage at this time.

With the warning comes temporary restrictions of some water uses, including water used for outdoor watering, both public and private, swimming pools, washing vehicles, boats or trailers, along with the exterior of any building or structure.

Doe to the high customer demand, people may begin to experience low or no water pressure.  Officials say with temperatures rising back above freezing, it is no longer necessary to drip faucets. Unless directed otherwise, folks can use water as necessary for normal consumption. If measures are not successful in reducing demand, HWEA may choose to implement further restrictions.

If you have a water leak or see a water leak at a neighboring property or business, contact the HWEA office immediately at 270-887-4246 or after-hours at 270-887-4232.
