Rep. Thomas talks priorities, expectations for upcoming General Assembly session

The Kentucky General Assembly will have a slew of items they can take up during the upcoming session that starts next week, and local legislators are ready with their own priorities.

State Representative Walker Thomas of Hopkinsville says he has a full list of things he wants to accomplish ready to go on Tuesday, one of which is tax exempting military pensions, which he has been pushing to have done for years.

He’s also looking to help out disabled veterans with some cost savings—he hopes to have them exempt from vehicle property taxes.

There are some items that he thinks will likely come up during session—especially since there is no budget on the agenda this year—including possibly setting up regulations for so-called ‘gray machines.

He says something he would like to see brought up is determining whether the language concerning Kentucky’s veteran cemeteries needs to be adjusted they could be allowed to receive federal funding.

Medical marijuana, social issues, TikTok and cybersecurity, along with school choice tax credits are all contenders for action during this upcoming session. You can hear more about Representative Thomas’ plans, along with other local legislators, Sunday morning on our weekly public affairs program, Don’t Be Afraid to Say It.
