HWEA and the Christian County Water District are offering some tips to prepare your home for the bitterly cold temperatures on the way.
Officials say inspect your water meter box to ensure that the box is intact and the lid fits on securely. If the box or lid is damaged and/or missing, you should contact your provider as soon as possible so repairs can be made.
Ensure that outside vents and any underpinning around your structure is covered well. This will help keep cold air from infiltrating your crawl spaces and freezing the pipes.
Remove hoses from outside faucets and make sure there are no leaks that could end up freezing.
During the very cold times where temperatures are in the teens or single digits, and especially during times of low water usage, keep a drip or steady trickle of water running from a faucet in your home.
