Kentucky Falls to Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday
Robyn Benton scored 18 points and Jada Walker added 14 but the Kentucky women’s basketball team lost to Florida Gulf Coast 69-63 on Sunday afternoon at Memorial Coliseum. Blair Green had nine points and four rebounds for the Cats, while Maddie Scherr had just six points but led the team with nine rebounds, while adding three steals, two blocked shots and two assists. Kentucky (7-4) committed 20 turnovers and FGCU turned those into 32 points. Meanwhile, Kentucky forced 19 FGCU turnovers but scored just 14 points off those miscues. The Cats also struggled shooting on Sunday as well, making just 19 of 58 (32.8 percent) from the floor, including two of 14 (14.3 percent) from behind the arc.
RV/#25 Louisville Powers Past Pitt, 77-53
The RV/#25 Louisville women’s basketball team extended its winning streak to four games in a row with the 77-53 win over Pitt on Sunday afternoon at the Petersen Events Center. The Cardinals (9-4, 1-0) won their ACC opener for the ninth-straight season and are a perfect 9-0 since joining the league. The win gave the Cardinals their 10th-straight conference opening win, dating back to the 2013-14 season. Hailey Van Lith led all scorers with 20 points on 6-for-13 shooting and 3-for-5 from behind the arc. It was the fifth time in her last seven games that she has scored 20 points or more and she has scored 20 or more in seven of her 12 games this season. Olivia Cochran tallied 11 points and tied a season high with 13 rebounds. It was her third double-double of the season and she is tied with Van Lith for most on the team this season. Six players scored eight or more points for the Cards as Merissah Russell had nine and Liz Dixon, Morgan Jones and Josie Williams had eight points each.
Curry’s 19 Rebounds Propel Cardinals to 61-55 Win Over Florida A&M
A dominant day on the boards, including a career effort on the glass from senior forward Sydney Curry, lifted Louisville men’s basketball to its second straight win Saturday, a 61-55 victory over Florida A&M at the KFC Yum! Center. Curry scored 13 points with a career-high 19 rebounds, the most by a Cardinal since Luke Whitehead’s 19 against Marquette on Jan. 31, 2004. Curry is one of nine players in the country to record at least 19 rebounds in a game this season. Curry’s effort was the spark to a commanding 45-31 advantage on the boards for Louisville (2-9), helping overcome 22 turnovers and 21 Florida A&M points off those miscues.

(New York, NY) — Number-13 Kentucky fell to number-14 UCLA 63-53 in the CBS Sports Classic at Madison Square Garden on Saturday. The Wildcats tied the game at 40 early in the second half, but UCLA went on a 6-0 run, and Kentucky trailed for the rest of the game. Chris Livingston led the Wildcats with 14 points off the bench. Kentucky dropped to 7-and-3, and the Wildcats host Florida A&M on Wednesday.

(Tucson, AZ) — Number-seven Tennessee lost to number-nine Arizona 75-70 at McKale Center in Tucson on Saturday night. The Volunteers were tied with Arizona at halftime, but the Wildcats scored early in the first half, and Tennessee trailed the rest of the way. Zakai Zeigler poured in 21 off the bench in the losing effort. The 9-and-2 Vols host Austin Peay on Wednesday.
