Salvation Army extreme weather center to open on bitterly cold nights

As bitterly cold temperatures enter the region in the coming days, the Salvation Army will have their extreme weather event shelter open for those who need a place to get out of the cold.

Lt. Lindsey Galabeas says the shelter will open at 7 p.m. the nights the temperature falls below 20 degrees, giving those who may have no other option a place to stay warm and healthy.

She says they expect the shelter will have to be open many nights this winter season, so they need help with funding to help keep things up and running—they are accepting donations from anyone who wants to help.

The extreme weather event shelter is located at 313 East Seventh Street. The Salvation Army of Hopkinsville posts updates to their Facebook page about when the shelter is open, and other information is available there as well. Officials there can also be reached by phone at 270-885-9633.
