Friends, family and supporters of Hopkinsville Mayor Wendell Lynch gathered at the Bruce Convention Center Sunday afternoon to show their appreciation as he comes to an end of his time in office.
Mayor Lynch was appointed in February of 2020 and was elected in November of that year, meaning he has led Hopkinsville through the entire pandemic. He’s also seen major industrial announcements come to fruition and has seen the city’s cash reserves grow by nearly $5 million.
He was appreciative for the celebration, but was quick to give credit to the city employees and citizens who worked together for all of the successes.
Mayor Lynch reflected back to a spring of 1972 phone conversation with his mother when he was in college and race relations were a major issue in Hopkinsville—noting the city has made much progress in the five decades since.
He says he’ll support Mayor-Elect J.R. Knight and his administration and encouraged everyone to do the same.
Lynch chose not to seek another term and regarding what’s next for him, the mayor says he’ll remain in Hopkinsville, but won’t give any specific plans.
Christian County Judge-Executive Steve Tribble presented Lynch with a ‘key to the county’ and Hopkinsville’s first lady, Bonnie Lynch, was also recognized for her service as a retired educator and for her many contributions to the community.
