Although the threat of rain lingered through most of the afternoon, that didn’t stop the Hopkinsville Christmas parade from traveling the route through downtown Saturday evening.
The start had been pushed back due to the weather, but Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tab Brockman says that didn’t stop a large turnout of viewers, who were out to enjoy the spirit of Christmas in the area and the work that people put into their parade entries.
It shaped up to be one of the largest Christmas parades that have called Hopkinsville home in the last 50 years, and Brockman says it’s all about coming together and wishing each other well and a Merry Christmas.
The grand champion of the float decorating contest this year was Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority, with second place claimed by Hopkinsville Community College. The best business award went to Rooms for Less and Music Central took home the Spirit Award.
Attendees were able to enjoy music, get candy, watch performances from dance teams and marching bands and overall, welcome in the holidays in downtown Hopkinsville.
