In order to get out ahead of any potential new projects, Todd County Fiscal Court on Friday morning approved first reading of an ordinance regulating where solar farms could be constructed.
Todd County Attorney Jeff Traughber says their ordinance is very similar to Christian County’s, with 2,000 feet setbacks from property lines and structures and guidelines for fencing and aesthetics.
While there’s a proposed major solar farm project in the Dogwood community of Christian County that brought about the passage of a regulatory ordinance, Judge-Executive Todd Mansfield says the Todd County ordinance was to get out ahead of any potential projects.
Judge Mansfield says he’s among those who have heard of solar companies approaching Todd County residents about potential lease options, but no word of any specific projects.
The ordinance passed unanimously and could be heard on final reading at a special-called meeting December 29.
The Todd County Road Department was approved to advertise for at least two job vacancies in hopes of becoming fully-staffed again as quickly as possible.
