After beginning the year 2-0 with wins over Muhlenberg County and Oldham County, the Colonels of Christian County now sit at 2-2.
Tuesday it was a tough loss to Madisonville on the Colonels home floor and Friday night another loss as home, 62-61 to Paducah Tilghman.
There were plenty of positives and negatives to come out of the game with.
Positive thing, it was a one point game and the Colonels put themselves in a position to win it, the shot just did not fall for Breland Morrison who was the player of the game with twenty-one points, just needed at least twenty-three.
Negative, Christian County lost a one point game in which they missed several key free throws and more than ten at the line overall. It was a problem against Madisonville, and it was again Friday.
Head Coach Toby Miles made it clear to me how frustrated he and his team are. Not just with the free throw shooting, but that is where it starts. Missing them is one thing, that happens Coach Miles pointed out, but it cannot happen down the stretch and in key moments.
Now again, positives and negatives.
Positive, the Colonels after giving up eighteen to Jayvion Powell in half number one, limited him greatly in half number two to less than ten.
Negative, they failed to put up key defensive rebounds throughout the game and could not execute second, third, even occasional fourth chances when they grabbed their own offensive rebound.
No one is doubting the Colonels talent, or there abilities when they are playing at their best. However, something has to give or they are staring down the barrel of another season with a lot of potential and mixed results.
Unfortunately, maybe the biggest negative of all, it does not get easier for Christian County. In an attempt to break this two game skid all they now have to do is turn around Saturday and go on the road to take on the consensus number one player in the state; Travis Perry and Lyon County.
According to Coach Miles they are not worried about that though. The Colonels plan to play their game, and worry about themselves. that might be the best strategy as the old saying goes ‘one man can’t beat you’, but if one could, sure does seem like it would be a guy in Perry who as a junior already has better than 3300 points in his career.
