Appearing for his final interview as mayor of Hopkinsville, Wendell Lynch wished everyone a Merry Christmas and invited all to attend the holiday events downtown this weekend.
Things get started at 6 p.m. Friday with the community tree-lighting and then the festivities continue Saturday evening with the Hopkinsville Electric System night-time Christmas parade getting underway at a new start time of 7:15 p.m.
The threat of rain moved the parade start time back to 7:15 p.m. with Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tab Brockman saying all reporting times have been moved back two hours to accommodate.
He says the one flipping the switch on the tree is 11-year-old Zach Boyd, a courageous kid undergoing treatment for osteosarcoma.
Mayor Lynch says it’s been his honor to serve the community in numerous capacities over many years, and he’s proud of how the city rose to the challenge during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The parade begins at Glass Avenue and will make its way south on Main Street.
