Cardinals Making Moves

>>Report: Cardinals Sign Wilson Contreras

(Undated)  — ESPN reports the team signed former Cub Wilson Contreras to a five-year contract worth 87-and-a-half million dollars on Wednesday.  The 30-year-old is a three-time National League All-Star, and he hit .243 with 22 home runs and 55 RBI with Chicago last season.  Contreras will replace Cardinals legend Yadier Molina, who spent 19 season as the team’s catcher before retiring at the end of 2022.

>>Cardinals Select Yankees Prospect in Rule 5 Draft

(San Diego, CA)  — The team selected right-handed pitcher Wilking Rodriguez in the Rule 5 Draft yesterday.  The Rule 5 Draft allows teams to draft players from other teams’ systems if the player is not on the 40-man roster and has been in the minors for a certain amount of time.  Rodriguez had a brief stint in the Majors back in 2014.  He pitched two scoreless innings in two games with the Royals that season.  Rodriguez has to stay on St. Louis’ active roster throughout 2023 or else the Cardinals have to offer him back to New York.
