Suspect arrested for Jersey Mikes robbery

Hopkinsville police have arrested the fugitive accused of robbing Jersey Mikes on Fort Campbell Boulevard.

Officers  arrested 53-year old Anthony McCoggle of Hopkinsville at the Walmart on Clinic Drive Sunday and charged him with first-degree robbery.

He allegedly entered Jersey Mikes just before 6 p.m. Saturday, told employees he had a gun in his pocket and demanded cash. He then reportedly fled the store on foot with money from the register.

McCoggle had already been a wanted fugitive for allegedly cutting off his ankle monitor after being released from jail while awaiting trial for attempted rape and strangulation charges.

He was walking with a woman near the rail-trail in the area of West Seventh Street in August when he allegedly forced her to take her clothes off, placed his hands on the victim’s throat and attempted to suffocate the woman while demanding sexual favors.

He also took the victim’s phone and threw it to attempt to keep her from calling police, according to police.
