Kentucky Baseball Releases 2023 Schedule
The Kentucky baseball team will face another challenging schedule in 2023, including 23 games against opponents that made the NCAA Tournament last spring, including eight against Super Regional opponents, as part of a season that kicks off on Feb. 17, 2023. Three teams that reached at least the NCAA Super Regional round, including College World Series participant Texas A&M, pepper the schedule. Making a trip to Lexington will be regional non-conference foes Indiana, Louisville and 2022 NCAA participant Wright State, as well as traditional power Mississippi State and Florida. The Wildcats open the season at Elon with a three-game series set for Feb. 17-19, then return home for a 10-game homestand. The opener at Kentucky Proud Park is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 21 against Evansville. The non-conference schedule also includes regional rivalry games against Indiana (Mar. 14) and the annual home-and-home against Louisville. The Cats and Cardinals meet in Louisville on Apr. 11 and in Lexington on Apr. 25. As previously released, the Cats will host 2021 national champion Mississippi State to open its 30-game 2023 Southeastern Conference schedule and the conclude it with a home series vs. Florida at Kentucky Proud Park. Looking to prepare for life on the road in the SEC, UK will play a pair of pre-conference series away from home against Elon and Southern Illinois (Mar. 10-12). The Cats are entering their seventh season under head coach Nick Mingione and have won 176 games during his tenure, including a 33-win season in 2022. Mingione now is third on Kentucky’s all-time coaching victories list and owns the second-highest winning percentage among coaches who were at the helm for 100 or more games.
Louisville Baseball Announces 2023 Schedule
Head coach Dan McDonnell and the University of Louisville baseball program have released their schedule for the upcoming 2023 season. Louisville’s 2023 slate gets underway on Feb. 17 with a three-game series against Bucknell at Jim Patterson Stadium, the first of 34 scheduled home games for the Cardinals this spring. Louisville will open the 2023 season at home for just the fifth time in Dan McDonnell’s 17 seasons at the helm of the program. The Cards are scheduled to play 21 games against teams that reached the 2022 NCAA Tournament, including a super-regional rematch against Texas A&M in March. Louisville’s home schedule includes weekend ACC series against Georgia Tech (March 17-19), Boston College (April 6-8), Wake Forest (April 14-16), Miami (April 27-29) and Florida State (May 18-20), in addition to the Battle of the Bluegrass against Kentucky (April 11) and Battle of the Barrel versus Vanderbilt (May 9). The Cards travel to Notre Dame (March 24-26), NC State (March 31-April 2), Duke (April 21-23), Clemson (May 5-7) and Virginia (May 12-14) for weekend series in conference play. Louisville will also take part in the 2023 Shriners Children’s College Classic March 3-5 in Houston, Texas. UofL will play Texas A&M, Rice and TCU at Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros.
