Arraignment held for felony assault case, victim claims case a ‘mistake’

Court proceedings will continue later this week against the man charged with felony assault for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend in the eye with a broom handle, despite pleas from the victim to the current judge in the case.

As previously reported, a warrant for first-degree assault (domestic violence) and terroristic threatening was served Monday afternoon against 36-year old Chad Love of Hopkinsville, alleging he stabbed the victim in the eye, causing a severe injury that required treatment at Jennie Stuart Health. Medical personnel reportedly told the victim that if more force had been used, the broom stick would have entered her brain and killed her.

Love is also accused of making threats to kill the victim during the assault that happened on the morning of November 23.

Christian District Judge Lindsey Adams entered a not guilty plea on his behalf during arraignment Tuesday morning and appointed him a public defender.

That’s when the victim in the case approached the bench and told the judge the case is a “mistake,” with Judge Adams noting her still very visible injuries while leaving bond at $25,000 cash.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Friday morning.
