New trial date set for alleged gunman in disappearance of Clarksville man

A new trial date was scheduled Monday morning in Christian Circuit Court for the alleged gunman in the 2020 disappearance of Justin Tyler Sawyer in Oak Grove.

Defense lawyer Stephanie Mize represents 22-year old Duwuan Davis of Clarksville and requested a continuance of the original Monday trial date, saying more time is needed to prepare as she just finished another trial.

Davis expressed frustration to Judge John Atkins about remaining incarcerated while awaiting trial two years after the incident, but the judge reminded him there’s a pending Tennessee indictment against him for murder while leaving bond at $150,000 cash.

Davis allegedly shot Sawyer five times during a drug deal gone wrong in the parking lot of the Shell station on KY 115 and then used the help of Gene Douglas Henry to move Sawyer’s body to the trunk of his car. Another suspect, Marquel Sims, was in the car at the time of the shooting and he ran across the road to the Pilot truck stop.

Sims and Henry have already accepted plea deals to lesser charges for their roles.

A new trial date was set for May 30.
