Kentucky Cruises Past North Florida on Wednesday
Kentucky got off to a slow start in Sunday’s loss at No. 2 Gonzaga. The Cats had no such problems on Wednesday. After hitting just 25 percent of its first-half shots, and no three pointers in the first 20 minutes on Sunday, the Cats were much the opposite on Wednesday. UK hit 22 of 41 (53.7 percent) of its shots in the first half, including seven of 15 (46.7 percent) from behind the arc. Kentucky would go on to an easy 96-56 victory on Wednesday, moving to 4-2 on the season. The spark came from Antonio Reeves, who responded in a big way to getting his first start of the season. In the first half alone, the Chicago native hit seven of nine from the floor, including four of five from behind the arc, on his way to 18 points. Reeves sparked the Cats to a 54-23 advantage at the break, marking the most points UK has scored in the first half this season.
Benton, Scherr Lead Cats Past Dayton in Bahamas
Robyn Benton scored 15 points and Ajae Petty had 12 as the Kentucky women’s basketball team topped Dayton 70-44 on Wednesday in the Baha Mar Hoops Pink Flamingo Championship. Maddie Scherr had an outstanding all-around game for the Cats. She scored just five points but dished out 11 assists, grabbed eight rebounds and had four steals. Jada Walker had 11 points and three steals for the Cats in the game.
Cards Fall to Cincinnati in Final Game in Maui
Another second-half surge by its opponent doomed the Louisville men’s basketball team Wednesday, as the Cardinals fell 81-62 in the seventh-place game of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational.
Cardinals Return Home to Host Longwood
The University of Louisville women’s basketball team is back on campus and set for their first home game in over two weeks. The Cardinals welcome Longwood to the KFC Yum! Center for the first meeting between the two teams in program history. Friday’s matchup is set for a 12 p.m. ET tip and it will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra. The Cardinals are hosting just their third home game of the season and continue to ride the program’s longest home winning streak. Dating back to the 2020-21 season, Louisville has won their last 20 home games in a row heading into Friday’s matchup with Longwood. The Cardinals have had even more success at home during non-conference play as they have won 37-straight non-conference home games dating back to the 2016-17 season.
Austin Peay-Howard time change
The Austin Peay State University-Howard game scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 26, inside the Winfield Dunn Center will tip-off at 2:30 p.m. CT, school officials announced Wednesday. The start time was advanced 30 minutes from the original schedule after a request from the Bison due to travel and flight concerns. After opening their season with five of six contests outside Clarksville, the Governors return to the Dunn Center for five-consecutive games in 16 days. Austin Peay has won four of its last five home games. The Governors finished second in the Ocean Bracket at the Greenlight Sunshine Slam, presented by Discount Tire, in Daytona Beach, Florida. Austin Peay has won three of its last four games overall.
Govs fall to Illinois-Chicago in Hostilo Hoops Community Classic finale
Graduate students Yamia Johnson and Shamarre Hale combined for 36 points in the Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team’s 62-59 loss against Illinois-Chicago, Wednesday, at Enmark Arena. The Governors (3-3) battled back from a 14-point deficit, but were unable to complete their second-straight double-digit comeback and dropped their midseason tournament finale.
WKU Holds Off Green Wave for 71-65 Victory in Caymans
In the fifth-place game of the Cayman Islands Classic, WKU held off Tulane in the final minutes of the game to earn a 71-65 victory in its final game on the island. The Hilltoppers second-half run helped propel them over the Green Wave.
