Trial was delayed Wednesday in Christian Circuit Court for Mory Burse, the man accused in the 2021 fatal shooting death of Devon Kendrick.
Burse appeared alongside public defender Eric Bearden, who requested the trial date be pushed back to allow him more time to prepare for trial, go over evidence and file additional motions, including for bond modification. With no objection from the Commonwealth, Judge Andrew Self set a new trial date for April 10.
Burse himself expressed frustration with proceedings, saying he feels as though he’s stuck waiting for things to happen, but they are continually delayed or don’t happen at all.
He also feels there’s additional evidence that the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office has yet to release, but Boling says if they have it, it has been turned over to the defense.
A pretrial hearing was set for March 1. Burse is alleged to have used a 9 mm handgun to shoot the 48-year-old Kendrick multiple times in the torso and arms just before midnight July 28 at a location behind the East Ninth Street Dollar General on Sharpe Street.
