Good early turnout reported as polls open on Election Day

Polls are open across Kentucky for General Election Day and there’s a ballot full of local and state races, in addition to two constitutional amendments on legislative power and abortion.

Christian County Clerk Mike Kem says there were lines in many places when polls opened.

A total of 4,070 people voted absentee or early in Christian County—2,187 Democrats, 1,722 Republicans and 161 registered as other, according to information from the Christian County Clerk’s Office.

That does not include anyone who checked in on the supplement roster due to an address change.

While there were two early voting locations, there are 16 centers open today that Kem says any registered voter can go to, regardless of where they live.

Those locations are Bruce Convention Center, the courthouse, senior center, Oak Grove Community Center, Indian Hills Elementary, New Barren Springs Church, New Palestine Baptist Church, Friendship House, Sinking Fork Baptist Church, Pembroke Baptist Church, Crofton City Hall, South Christian Elementary, Walnut Street Center, Concord Baptist Church, Cedar Grove Baptist Church and Hopkinsville Middle School.

If you vote straight-party ticket, Kem reminds to be sure you fill in the bubbles for the non-partisan races and constitutional amendments.

Kem says it’s nearly impossible to predict turnout numbers with so many changes in the system over the last few years, but he does expect it to be high.

Todd County Clerk Cindy O’Bryan also expects a good turnout, driven by local races and the amendments.

She says their precincts will have a few extra voting booths so people can have plenty of time to read over the long ballot.

Todd County is sticking with its 13 traditional precincts this year instead of voting centers.

In Trigg County there are seven voting centers—Cerulean Fire Department, East Golden Pond Fire Department, the EOC, South Road Fire Department, Trigg County Recreation Complex, Trigg-Lyon Fire Department and The Way.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. and anyone standing in line at 6 p.m. will be allowed to vote. You can find a sample ballot at govoteky.com.

We’ll have live election coverage beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday on the WHOP Family of Stations and streaming on our websites.
