(Lexington, KY)  — Number-four Kentucky started the college basketball season off with a big win.  The Wildcats crushed Howard 95-63 in Lexington.  Elsewhere, Memphis beat Vanderbilt 76-67 while Tennessee dispatched Tennessee Tech 75-43.  Louisville begins their season tomorrow night at home against Bellarmine.

Cason Wallace Leads No. 4 Kentucky Past Howard in Opener

The Cats were shorthanded in the first game of the campaign, missing three starters, including Oscar Tshiebwe, Daimion Collins and Sahvir Wheeler. With Wheeler out of the lineup, someone needed to step into the role of running the offense and being the distributor. Enter freshman Cason Wallace. He finished the game just short of a triple double. 15 points, hitting seven of 11 from the floor, including one of two from behind the arc. He dished out nine assists, grabbed eight rebounds and had a pair of steals in his official UK debut.

>>Billikens Beat Murray State

(St. Louis, MO)  — The Saint Louis Billikens opened the season with a 91-68 rout of Murray State at Chaifetz Arena.  Saint Louis led by 15 points at halftime and scored 47 points in the second half.  Javonte Perkins led all scorers with 21 points, and Gibson Jimerson poured in 20.  The 1-and-0 Billikens will host Evansville this Saturday.

New Look Racers Fall at Saint Louis in 98th Season Opener

The Murray State Racers opened their 98th season of college basketball with a 91-68 loss against the Saint Louis Billikens at Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis, Missouri. The Racers get back on the floor Saturday for their home opener with Lindsey Wilson paying a visit to the CFSB Center on MSU Hall of Fame Day and a 7 p.m. tip. Playing in their first game at Murray State, the trio of Jamari Smith, Rob Perry and Kenny White, Jr., led the Racers in scoring. Smith hit 6-of-11 from the field for 19 points and five rebounds, while Perry scored 14 points on 6-of-13 shooting. White hit 4-of-9 from the field for 10 points. JaCobi Wood led the Racers with eight rebounds.

Robinson scores 13 against Wolfpack

Austin Peay State University’s Shon Robinson tallied 13 points despite his team’s 99-50 loss to North Carolina State, Monday, in the season opener for both teams inside PNC Arena. Robinson shot 5-of-9 inside the arc and 3-of-4 at the free throw line to go along with five rebounds and a block. Calos Paez had nine points off the bench, going 7-of-7 from the free throw line. Elijah Hutchins-Everett added eight points. Guy Fauntleroy and Cameron Copeland each scored five points. Fauntleroy dished out four of his team’s eight assists and also had two steals. The Governors travel to Purdue, Nov. 11, for a 6:30 p.m. CT tip-off.
