Reed Earns CFPA Week 10 Honorable Mention Honors

For the second time this season, WKU quarterback Austin Reed has earned College Football Performance Awards Honorable Mention National Performer of the Week. Reed was also recognized with honorable mention honors after his Week 4 performance against FIU. In WKU’s dominant 59-7 victory over Charlotte, Reed threw for a season high 409 yards and six touchdowns while completing 23 of 38 passes. His six touchdown passes went to six-different receivers, and his first-two throws of the game both resulted in touchdown passes. Reed has thrown for 3,171 yards and 28 touchdowns this year while rushing for six more scores.

Sun Belt Conference Announces 2022 Postseason Awards

The Sun Belt Conference announced its 2022 postseason men’s soccer awards Friday afternoon ahead of the first round of the conference tournament beginning on Sunday. Kentucky head coach Johan Cedergren was named Coach of the Year following the program, and his, first undefeated regular season. Senior Luis Grassow was named Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year. True freshman Casper Mols has been named Sun Belt Conference Goalkeeper of the Year following an impressive freshman season in the net. In addition to the three individual award winners, Kentucky was also well represented on both the Sun Belt Conference First and Second Teams. First-team winners included Sun Belt Conference Preseason Offensive Player of the Year Eythor Bjorgolfsson along with Enzo Mauriz, Luis Grassow, Robert Screen, and Casper Mols. The second-team honrees included Casper Grening, Nick Gutmann, Clay Holstad, Andrew Erickson, and Lucca Rodrigues.

Emma Grome Wins Fifth SEC Setter of the Week Title

Kentucky sophomore setter Emma Grome collected her fifth Southeastern Conference Setter of the Week title, the league office announced on Monday afternoon. Grome had 46 assists Wednesday night as Kentucky beat Georgia in Athens for a road victory to hold pace with Florida atop the SEC standings. With her 46 assists, it was tied for the most for Grome this season in any three-set match, as she averaged a mammoth 15.33 assists per set and notched her 13th match this year with 40+ assists, including 10 SEC matches with that total. Grome also had nine digs in Wednesday night’s match, one shy of her seventh double-double of the year.

Claire Chaussee Named ACC Player of the Week

University of Louisville outside hitter Claire Chaussee was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week. Chaussee posted a career-high 24 kills against North Carolina with a .360 hitting percentage, boosting Louisville to an undefeated weekend and its 15th sweep of the season versus NC State. The Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, native totaled 34 kills averaging 4.9 kills per set and added 14 digs over the weekend. She led the Cards in scoring in a 3-0 result against the Wolfpack with 10 kills, two assists, six digs and a block.

Briggs Earns C-USA Offensive Player of the Week from Monumental Performance

Conference USA announced volleyball’s weekly award winners Monday, after WKU took sweeps on the road in Florida against Florida Atlantic and FIU. 13-0 in conference and a perfect record on the road, outside hitter Paige Briggs was named the league’s Offensive Player of the Week. Committing only two hitting errors over the weekend in Florida, Briggs hit .595 between two matches. The senior from Michigan hit a perfect match, with no errors, picking up 17 kills for a .680 hitting clip — her second-best of her career, while stuffing four blocks and two service aces against Florida Atlantic and FAU, averaging 5.25 points a set.

Kellen Stewart and Jaden Lyles pick up ASUN weekly honors

Austin Peay State University wide receiver Kellen Stewart and defensive back Jaden Lyles were named the ASUN Conference’s Freshman of the Week and Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively, the league announced Monday. Stewart, a native of Rosenberg, Texas, matched his career-high with two catches while racking up a career-best 81 receiving yards. The redshirt freshman receiver also hauled in a 69-yard scoring strike for his second touchdown of the season in the third quarter of the Govs’ 38-35 win at North Alabama. The 69-yard touchdown is the longest of his career and saw Stewart outrun the Lions defense the final 31 yards after the catch. Lyles, a freshman defensive back, made an impact on special teams in the Governors’ road win. A Hendersonville, Tennessee native, Lyles blocked a punt in the second quarter and set the Governors offense up on the North Alabama 46-yard line. Austin Peay then went on a five-play, 30-yard scoring drive and pushed its lead to 10 points before the half. Stewart’s second ASUN Freshman of the week award makes him the second Governor to earn the award twice this season, joining Kam Thomas. Lyles is the third Gov to be named the ASUN Special Teams Player of the Week, joining Maddux Trujillo and Thomas.
