Cold front to bring big changes this weekend, but little to no rain

A big cooldown is coming over the weekend for Western Kentucky, but there doesn’t appear to be much relief in sight for the ongoing drought.

Justin Gibbs with the National Weather Service in Paducah says high temperatures will reach the mid to upper 70’s by the end of the week before a cold front moves in and chills temperatures to the 40’s for highs and 20’s for lows this weekend—but don’t expect any significant rainfall with the change.

The wildfire danger has decreased in recent days with much-needed rainfall, but Gibbs says it wouldn’t take much of a dry spell to bring back those concerns, especially with any wind.

River levels will also be dropping again after a small and brief uptick.

There was no mention of any type of wintry precipitation or severe weather chances during the weekly conference call.
