Shootings suspects arraigned in circuit court

Another suspect charged in connection with a shooting at the Princess Theater was arraigned in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday, along with a man charged with shooting two people on East Third Street.

Jaquavian Spencer is facing two counts of first-degree assault and defense attorney Sands Chewning entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.

The shooting happened following a party at the Princess Theater and a warrant for a co-defendant says Zamarius Humphries pulled a gun on Spencer and that Spencer then pulled his own gun and shot Humphries in the neck.

That’s when 22-year old Deovion Day of Cadiz allegedly began firing at Spencer and struck Aniyah Collins, who was in her car attempting to leave the area. His gunfire also hit 30-year-old Gteria Acree, who was in a parking lot at the corner of East Eighth and Virginia Street.

Acree and Humphries required treatment at area hospitals and Collins died from her injuries.

Herbert Wharton was arraigned on two counts of first-degree assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

A warrant alleges on July 26, Ronald Young caused serious injury to Wharton by striking him several times on the head, causing injuries that required surgery and could potentially cause him to lose vision in one eye. Later that morning, Wharton allegedly confronted Young and shot him in the hand and shot 65-year old Kathy Jackson in the leg with a rifle during an incident on a lot between East Third and Fourth Street.
