Western Kentucky remains in a drought status and while the rain last week and over the weekend may have improved conditions some, the area is still very much in need of rain.
Keith Cooley with the National Weather Service in Paducah says the main impact from the weekend rain is calming some of the immediate wildfire danger.
The extended-range outlook shows potential drought improvement this winter for the Pennyrile region of Western Kentucky with above normal precipitation.
This week will be mostly dry and warmer than average toward the weekend.
After a chance of a light rain event over the weekend, next week is looking to be warmer and drier than average.
