Colonel Football Up and Down Off the Field

You may have noticed a few things over the past week or two going on with Christian County football.

Head Coach Blake Ladson was mysteriously absent from last Friday’s game and will, having not been at practice this week, also be absent from this Friday’s game.

Also, the Colonels record now sits at 1-8 due to having to forfeit the week one win over Caldwell County.

What is going on?

Well, the answer to both is easy enough, but is not the full answer.

Here is what we know; Blake Ladson was placed on administrative by the school for actions unknown. The Caldwell County win was forfeited due to the use of an ineligible player. According to people I spoke with the situation with Coach Ladson is ongoing and unresolved, therefore that is all we can say at this time. As for the forfeited win, it had to do with academic eligibility and a system error that was no fault of any one person and the school removed the player from competing once it was discovered, hence the ability to maintain the Murray win.

Now it is not all negative. There was some good news late last week and into this week; KJ Vaughn is back!

That is right. The dynamic athlete was cleared late last week to return to full competition and unknown to a lot of us, including myself, he participated in the final offensive series against Bowling Green catching a pass.

This week interim Head Coach Zach Self remarked to me what is has meant to have him back both on and off the field.

Here are his comments…

Self comes from McCracken County and certainly Vaughn just adds another weapon to an already potent offense when its going. The motivation for this team to prove they deserve to have more than one win will be strong, and with or without Coach Ladson on the sidelines, this team has bought into the attitude and culture of its entire coaching staff.
