Trial date set for East Ninth Street shooting suspect

A trial date was set for one of the suspects charged in connection with a shooting on East Ninth Street near the Princess Theater.

Zamarius Humphries is charged with attempted first-degree assault and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and Judge Andrew Self set trial to start on May 11, with a pretrial hearing set for December 7.

The shooting happened following a party at the Princess and a warrant for a co-defendant says Humphries pulled a gun on 27-year old Jaquavian Spencer and that Spencer then pulled his own gun and shot Humphries in the neck.

That’s when 22-year old Deovion Day of Cadiz allegedly began firing at Spencer and struck Aniyah Collins, who was in her car attempting to leave the area. His gunfire also hit 30-year-old Gteria Acree, who was in a parking lot at the corner of East Eighth and Virginia Street.

Acree and Humphries required treatment at area hospitals and Collins died from her injuries.
